Headset:Microphone Issues

This article was designed for troubleshooting and diagnosing Microphone Issues with our headset! Please follow the steps below troubleshooting assistance.

Microphone not Working:

  1. Mic Mute: Check if the microphone is muted, either through in-line or other hardware controls, or iCUE settings.

  2. Connection: Ensure that the headset's microphone is securely connected to the device. If the microphone is detachable, disconnect and reattach the microphone.

  3. Microphone Settings: Make sure the correct audio output source is selected in your device's sound settings and the input volume. To do so:

    1. Search "Sound Settings" in the Windows search.

    2. Test the devices in the drop down menu called "Choose your input device".

    3. Click "Device Properties" under the selected Input Device and verify the volume level.

    4. Click "Start Test" to see if Windows picks up the microphone input.

  4. Use the Mic Boost feature in iCUE: Verify Mic Boost settings in the iCUE software if the headset is iCUE compatible.

    1. Make sure your iCUE software is updated to the latest version and that your CORSAIR headset is being detected by iCUE.

    2. Select your headset in iCUE, then click Device Settings. You should see a Mic Boost slider option.

    3. Utilizing the slider, adjust the setting and see if your low volume issue is resolved.

  5. Changing to DVD quality: Changing the sound settings to DVD quality may be able to fix your microphone volume issue. To do so:

    1. Right-click the Volume button on your system taskbar.

    2. Click Open Sound settings.

    3. Click Device properties in the Input section.

      • Make sure your headset is selected in the dropdown menu.

    4. Click Additional device properties on the right side.

    5. Click the Advanced tab.

    6. Select DVD Quality in the Default Format section

  6. Fixing volume issues in Discord: If you are experiencing low volume issues when using Discord, go to the sound settings in Discord and click Reset Voice Settings. This should fix Discord microphone volume issue.

  7. Drivers: Outdated or missing/conflicted drivers can cause Mic problems. Uninstall the audio mic drivers under "Device Manager" and restart the PC. If issue persists, a clean install of iCUE may resolve the issue.

Microphone Background Noise:

  1. Mic Position: Properly position the microphone close to your mouth to reduce background noise. Avoid breathing directly into the microphone. If your microphone boom came with a puff ball, use it!

  2. Mic Sensitivity: If available, adjust the microphone sensitivity settings in iCUE to minimize distortion.

  3. Mic too Low: If Mic is too low, adjust the dB setting under mic boost to increase Mic gain when speaking.

NOTE: If the background noise is loud enough, this does not necessarily mean the mic is faulty! If your PC has a NVIDIA GPU, please download the NVIDIA BROADCAST audio plugin and it may resolve this issue.
