Headset:Microphone Issues
This article was designed for troubleshooting and diagnosing Microphone Issues with our headset! Please follow the steps below troubleshooting assistance.
Microphone not Working:
-
Mic Mute: Check if the microphone is muted, either through in-line or other hardware controls, or iCUE settings.
-
Connection: Ensure that the headset's microphone is securely connected to the device. If the microphone is detachable, disconnect and reattach the microphone.
-
Microphone Settings: Make sure the correct audio output source is selected in your device's sound settings and the input volume. To do so:
-
Search "Sound Settings" in the Windows search.
-
Test the devices in the drop down menu called "Choose your input device".
-
Click "Device Properties" under the selected Input Device and verify the volume level.
-
Click "Start Test" to see if Windows picks up the microphone input.
-
-
Use the Mic Boost feature in iCUE: Verify Mic Boost settings in the iCUE software if the headset is iCUE compatible.
-
Make sure your iCUE software is updated to the latest version and that your CORSAIR headset is being detected by iCUE.
-
Select your headset in iCUE, then click Device Settings. You should see a Mic Boost slider option.
-
Utilizing the slider, adjust the setting and see if your low volume issue is resolved.
-
-
Changing to DVD quality: Changing the sound settings to DVD quality may be able to fix your microphone volume issue. To do so:
-
Right-click the Volume button on your system taskbar.
-
Click Open Sound settings.
-
Click Device properties in the Input section.
-
Make sure your headset is selected in the dropdown menu.
-
-
Click Additional device properties on the right side.
-
Click the Advanced tab.
-
Select DVD Quality in the Default Format section
-
-
Fixing volume issues in Discord: If you are experiencing low volume issues when using Discord, go to the sound settings in Discord and click Reset Voice Settings. This should fix Discord microphone volume issue.
-
Drivers: Outdated or missing/conflicted drivers can cause Mic problems. Uninstall the audio mic drivers under "Device Manager" and restart the PC. If issue persists, a clean install of iCUE may resolve the issue.
Microphone Background Noise:
-
Mic Position: Properly position the microphone close to your mouth to reduce background noise. Avoid breathing directly into the microphone. If your microphone boom came with a puff ball, use it!
-
Mic Sensitivity: If available, adjust the microphone sensitivity settings in iCUE to minimize distortion.
-
Mic too Low: If Mic is too low, adjust the dB setting under mic boost to increase Mic gain when speaking.
NOTE: If the background noise is loud enough, this does not necessarily mean the mic is faulty! If your PC has a NVIDIA GPU, please download the NVIDIA BROADCAST audio plugin and it may resolve this issue.
